After endorsing in principle
the possibility to acquire resources by initiating violence (the institution
of the state), classical liberalism took a fateful step which, among other
consequences, exploded the logical consistency of its anti-interventionist
reasoning, opened the door for expanding chaos in every field of social
life, and set up the indispensable framework for “the worst to get on top”.
That was supplemented by another error, to elevate that structure to the
position of sole legitimate authority in charge of promoting reforms in
society.
The outcome consisted in the gradual destruction of every single private,
organized structure able to protect property and freedom, together with
the mindset representing its foundation, the latter to be displaced by a
statist mindset. Insane ideas were tried and supported by force and mass
murder precisely on that account, (partial) freedom became a rare episode,
and liberals and liberalism got discredited after repeated, unsuccessful
recourse to that structure in order to implement their program.
A sustainable rebuilding of social institutions is impossible without a
rebuilding of the ultimate spiritual foundations. It is not a coincidence
the fact that an orthodox bishop found the way out of this. Vladyka Damascene
illustrated the truth that good and evil cannot live together, that evil
cannot be put down by evil (the liberal illusions of minimal government),
but only by “the good fight” (rejecting the integration in the system, living
openly and honestly outside).
