The Myth of “Efficiency Criteria” in Economic Science

„Efficiency” is the mirific concept on the basis of which almost all economists have built their judgments and theories. The way efficiency arguments are applied explains a lot of unfortunate things that happen nowadays. This essay aims to emphasize the fact that „the efficiency criteria” entail insurmountable scientific limits. Ignoring them, either because of unawareness or of special interest, easily leads to grave scientific errors. „Efficiency” is responsible for „legitimating” public policy, increasing state power and politicizing economic science.
